Fragrant Sweetbox
Sarcococca ruscifolia
Fragrant Sweet Box is a more subtle, formal evergreen recommendation compared to similar plants we offer. It does best in the southern, dry shady regions where other plants won't grow. Its lovely glossy evergreen foliage creates a natural cascade throughout the year and especially shows itself in the early spring with white tiny fragrant flowers. Something cool to note is that this species is polyembryonic which means it can have up to 7 embryos per seed! Thought to be the result of atomic radiation in the early 1920s but it was later proved that it was simply a natural mutation. The landscaping applications for this beauty are limited to the amount of sun or lack thereof but if your garden needs to fill a shady area, Fragrant Sweet Box is definitely something we recommend to fill those spots!
