Cephalotaxus harringtonia ‘Plania’

Not a true yew, but evergreen nonetheless, this yew look-alike is a compact grower and works beautifully where you might put a true yew for their fine texture and short stature. Not much trimming is needed to maintain their shape and density, so if you are looking for an easy plant to tend to, you are looking at the right pictures! Great for a low hedge or in mass plantings for year-round coverage, this shrub is deer resistant and shade loving.

Joseph's Take

Joseph's Take

Yews have been one of my personal favorites for many years. In my early days I spent some time learning to grow the perfect yew from propagation. It was not so easy as other shrubs but I figured it out. I've always loved the texture, its a fun plant to touch as it's very soft. Like many plants that remind my of pines, its new leaves are much lighter during the spring flush. I use Prostrata as a thick ground cover in front of larger Azaleas and Camellias.
