Buxus microphylla var. japonica 'Wintergreen'

The Wintergreen Boxwood has small oval leaves that do well with or without pruning. The new growth appears a lighter shade of green, then transitions to a full dark color. This boxwood does not prefer harsh winter wind, so consider a more sheltered area in colder climates. Late winter and early spring are ideal times for pruning to maintain your desired shape. This boxwood is a considered a medium to large plant addition with a fast growth rate of 4 to 6 inches per year.

Joseph's Take

Joseph's Take

Wintergreen Boxwood looks like many Boxwood's in its color and shape. Main difference in Wintergreen is that it grows much faster than most. So if your looking for a Boxwood but want one that will fill in and mature much faster, Wintergreen is your choice. Using these as a foundation planting in front of the house is a good idea while planting Encore Azaleas that are dwarf in front of that, suggestions are below.
