Gardenia jasminoides 'Kleim's Hardy'

The Kleim's Hardy Gardenia is one of the more popular dwarf gardenias available due to its improved cold hardiness and greater sun tolerance.  'Kleim's Hardy' is slow-growing and forms a low mounded shape 2-3 feet tall and wide, making it well suited for the front of the shrub border or along pathways where the fragrance can be enjoyed.  Ideal for small spaces as well, such as in courtyards or townhouse gardens.  The flowers are single blossom, star shaped petals that appear late in springtime and can re-bloom in fall.

Joseph's Take

Joseph's Take

Kleims Hardy has been my favorite Gardenia for years. I have planted many of these for the dark green evergreen foliage and especially the amazing fragrance of the flowers. I especially use any Gardenia against a white fence or house. Kleims is a relatively strong gardenia if you live in a cooler climate. Soil desires are acidic, water needs are minor. Best planting location is near a protective structure with dappled sun.
