Camellia sasanqua ‘Green 01-006’ PP27597

October Magic® Carpet™ Camellia establishes itself as the most diminutive sasanqua selection available, reaching merely 3 feet tall—substantially more compact than traditional Shishi Gashira cultivars. This fall-blooming evergreen delivers exceptional groundcover potential and refined proportions ideal for space-constrained applications. Pink double blooms showcase distinctive ruffled petal architecture that distinguishes this cultivar from conventional camellia selections, creating refined textural interest and refined chromatic presence. Hardy across zones 7–9, this compact performer excels in foundation plantings, border applications, and intimate garden spaces where its modest stature and distinctive floral character provide sophisticated ornamental presence without overwhelming spatial constraints.

October Magic® Carpet™ Camellia demands well-draining soil conditions and restrained watering practices—overwatering presents greater risk than periodic moisture stress. In clay-predominant soils, amending planting holes with pine bark or comparable organic soil conditioners substantially improves drainage and root establishment. This soil preparation methodology benefits the complete spectrum of acid-loving ornamentals including rhododendrons, azaleas, and mountain laurels, establishing optimal foundation conditions for sustained plant vigor and reliable performance across diverse landscape applications.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
