Camellia sasanqua 'Green 94-035' PP20465

October Magic® Orchid™ Camellia captivates through prolific semi-double white-to-pink blooms featuring distinctive orchid-pink highlights that establish its refined nomenclature. This fall-blooming sasanqua cultivar delivers exceptional seasonal interest when most landscape ornamentals have concluded their floral displays, extending color into the dormant period. Its naturally compact conical architecture—achieved without intervention—combined with relatively narrow growth habit and rich dark-green evergreen foliage creates refined vertical presence. Full sun to part-shade adaptability expands placement flexibility across diverse light exposures, rendering it an outstanding selection for gardeners seeking commanding fall color and refined architectural character without demanding pruning protocols or specialized cultural requirements.

October Magic® Orchid™ Camellia thrives in well-draining soil conditions and benefits from moderate watering protocols—overwatering presents greater establishment risk than periodic moisture deficit. In clay-heavy soils prevalent throughout many regions, amending planting holes with pine bark or comparable organic soil conditioners substantially improves drainage and root health. This soil preparation strategy proves equally beneficial for companion acid-loving species including rhododendrons, azaleas, and mountain laurels, establishing optimal growing conditions that support sustained vigor and reliable performance across diverse landscape applications.

Remember that all fall blooming or Camellia sasanqua can grow in either sun or shade while the spring blooming Camellia japonica needs at least afternoon shade.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
