Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
October Magic® Carpet™ Camellia
Camellia sasanqua ‘Green 01-006’ PP27597
When you search up the smallest or shortest camellia, the Shishi Gashira (which we also offer) is your first option, growing up to be 5 ft tall--but that is now a misnomer with this new sasanqua, read: fall blooming, camellia. With the Carpet coming in at 3 ft tall, this camellia is officially the shortest we offer. With the unassuming name of Carpet, these make for great groundcover and when you want a smaller camellia for your yard. The pink double blooms are sure to wow, with the ruffles of the petals being a stand out feature compared to other camellias. This evergreen likes to stay in zones 7 through 9.
