Aucuba Japonica 'Hosoba Hoshifu'

The intensely colored Hosoba Hoshifu Aucuba looks as if yellow paint was splashed all over its leaves. The large spearhead shaped, variegated, glossy leaves are a rich green with yellow spots that vary in size so you get a beautiful contrast within the plant. This evergreen reaches a mature height of 3 feet and a width of 4 feet and is one that will thrive in landscapes that is heavily shaded. Its small compact growth habit permits it to be an integral part of perennial beds, woodland garden, a highlight in a container garden, backdrop, foundation, or a perfect choice to cover grass-less shade areas in your landscape.

Joseph's Take

Aucuba is another plant that I remember growing up at my grandmothers house. The most useful aspect I've noticed with Aucuba is that it can survive and thrive in the most shady environment, for example, under a deck. The newer yellow Aucuba's are nice to mix with the older greener ones.
