Spiraea japonica 'NCSX2' PP30,953

Proven Winners has created a spirea that is both beautiful and non-invasive!  The Double Play Doozie® Spirea offers a brilliant pop of color during the hot dry months when other plants have started to give up the ghost. It is the only red-blooming spirea currently available, and the eye-catching bloom is accented by its new foliage--which emerges red, then turns to yellow and green.  A real show-stopper!

Joseph's Take

Spirea Double Play Doozie is another new Spirea for us last year. It's new foliage is dark red which matures quickly to green. Flowers are also dark red, when its blooming putting on new leaves at the same time, its really special. I'm looking forward to seeing their fall color, please trim by 50% each winter. Doozie loves lots of sun and is not water hungry. All Spireas are very cold hardy which makes them great for northern states.

Spirea love a hard trim in the winter as they will pop back out more full and colorful the following year. Proven Winners Spirea in particular have more vibrant colors in both leaf and flower than the older spirea. One thing that noone ever really talks about is their fall leaf change, it can be a deep red, a bright orange, or a pale yellow. Spirea are also as tough, they can handle really cold temps.
