Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Azalea, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, or Camellia as they all prefer fall planting with less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting these varieties.
Autumn Fire® Encore Azalea
Rhododendron ‘Roblez’ PP28279
'Autumn Fire®' Encore Azalea is a dense, rounded shrub with true red semi-double flowers that appear in profusion in the spring and then again for a lighter encore in the fall. This hardy compact shrub can be grown in full sun and average soil. Leaves are a dark glossy green and stay year round, to offer interest even in the more dreary months. Slightly smaller than 'Autumn Embers', reaching 2.5 feet high, they are ideal flowering shrubs for the front of garden beds and borders, or under low windows.
