Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
April Remembered Camellia
Camellia japonica 'April Remembered'
Vigorous and perhaps one of the hardiest, 'April Remembered' camellia is a noteworthy variety, sporting masses of large, semi-double pale pink flowers. Bloom time can extend over a long period from October to May, depending on the planting location. This camellia hybrid is part of the 'April' series introduced by Dr. Clifford Parks and can be successfully grown in regions as cold as zone 6. Like most camellias, it will benefit from a bit of shelter from the wind and hot sun, since buds and leaves are susceptible to the extreme elements.
