Camellia sasanqua ‘Green 97-039’ PP20566

October Magic® Inspiration™ Camellia represents the pinnacle of the October Magic series developed by Bobby Green of Green Nurseries in Fairhope, Alabama, delivering exceptional fall-and-winter floral displays. Large loose peony-form blooms feature pristine white petals with distinctive narrow maroon margins and delicate fragrance, creating refined chromatic sophistication and sensory appeal. This cultivar excels as a screening specimen around semi-shady deck applications, where its sustained seasonal flowering and refined aesthetic presence enhance outdoor living spaces. The combination of exceptional petal form, subtle fragrance, and extended bloom season establishes it as an outstanding selection for gardeners seeking sophisticated ornamental character and multi-sensory garden interest during the dormant landscape period.

October Magic® Inspiration™ Camellia establishes optimally in well-draining soil conditions and benefits from restrained watering protocols—excessive moisture retention poses greater risk than periodic drought stress. In clay-heavy soils prevalent throughout many regions, amending planting holes with pine bark or comparable organic soil conditioners substantially improves drainage and root development. This soil preparation methodology proves equally beneficial for companion acid-loving species including rhododendrons, azaleas, and mountain laurels, establishing optimal foundation conditions for sustained plant vigor and reliable performance across diverse landscape applications.

Remember that all fall blooming or Camellia sasanqua can grow in either sun or shade while the spring blooming Camellia japonica needs at least afternoon shade.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
