Not all plants have glossy green leaves all the time. Some exchange that for exceptional bloom or a long season of color. Derived from the Latin word which means "to fall off," deciduous shrubs lose their leaves when temperatures go below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Not to worry, though, when temps rise in the spring, their dormancy breaks and leaves and blooms return in full force. Because deciduous shrubs are dormant in the winter, these plants conserve water well and are better suited to survive winter conditions.
