Loropetalums are a great addition to any garden or yard. The dark foliage contrasts well with other shrubs and the plentiful fringed flowers to make a great spring time show. They grow quickly, are sun tolerant, drought tolerant, and cold tolerant as well.
Dark purple foliage with white flowers make for a high impact evergreen shrub. These shrubs are easy to grow and can tolerate a variety of soils as long as it is not in wet soil. As with most loropetalums, pruning is not necessary to keep its shape, but also an occasional trim can be beneficial. Pruning is best done after flowering to give new growth a chance to handle cooler weather to come. This plant can grow to 6 feet tall and 6 feet wide and may be difficult to train to a much smaller size. These shrubs work well when left to grow closer to their true height.
