Hydrangea 'Lindsey Ann' PP#26249

The L.A. Dreamin' Hydrangea is a lovely macrophylla that can't seem to make up its mind. This big leaf hydrangea has an explosion of colorful blooms starting in midsummer that ranges from pink and purple to green and blue, all at the same time. This hydrangea is a strong rebloomer, continuing until frost, and blooms on old and new wood. Buds set in spring and summer that open the same year, and also in summer and fall that will bloom the following year. L.A. Dreamin' loves the morning sun, but will require afternoon shade if the temps are over 80. Like all hydrangeas, L.A. Dreamin' does best with consistent moisture and a good covering of mulch. This beauty can reach five feet tall and wide, so situate at the back of a border with room to stretch, or try it in a large container surrounded by trailing lime green ipomea for a lovely outdoor decoration. Given its relatively compact size, pruning will probably not be necessary; however if pruning is desired, time any pruning after the first flush of flowers. Diversity of bloom color is strongest in older plants, so be patient...it will be worth it!

Shade hydrangeas prefer moist soil and regular watering during the growing season. For most, in order to obtain the blue flower color, apply 2 tablespoons of aluminum sulfate near the base of the plant. A rusty nail or coffee grounds will also increase the acidity of the soil which makes the flowers turn blue. In the case of LA Dreamin, no worries, it will have blue, pink, and lavander flowers every season.
