Burgundy-purple leaves framed with a golden border adorn this beautiful compact shrub. The Admiration Barberry sheds its foliage for a luscious red color in the winter. Pest resistant, drought tolerant, and low maintenance, this beautiful addition to your garden does not ask for a lot of attention.
The beautiful color of the Admiration makes it great to use as foundation plantings, planted together in a grouping, lined up for a border, or in a container.
Joseph’s take: I’ve always used Dwarf Barberry and bright yellow Spirea as accent plants in a larger landscape. I will often plant groups of three to five of them near a sidewalk entrance or near large green Azaleas or Hollies. Both Barberry and Spirea love a hard trimming each winter. I always cut them back by half their size each year as this encourages a more vigorous and beautiful growth habit the following year.
