Camellia japonica 'Spring's Promise'

This japonica hybrid introduced by Dr. Clifford Parks is not only cold tolerant to zone 6, it is a true harbinger of spring, with blooms often starting in fall and continuing into spring. The single form bloom is dark pink and lightly fragrant, and evergreen leaves are large (up to 3") and glossy. Grows between 5-8' tall and 4' wide, best in part shade, well-drained moist soil, with protection from afternoon sun.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Camellia as they prefer less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
