Acer palmatum 'Sharp's Pygmy'

Renowned as one of the most sought after dwarf Japanese maples since its conception in the 1980’s, the Sharp’s Pygmy, named after Jimmy Sharp, is known for its miniature, dwarvish size extending a compact 4 ft all around creating a rounded almost oval shaped mound. This makes it an easy-going naturally bonsai forming maple not requiring much in maintenance nor the hassle of troublesome training with wires and pruning. Another notable convention is its pygmy style maple shaped leaves edged in a lightly brushed red. The compact nature, unlike other upright tall maples, encourages dense forming foliage creating an array of verdant carpets brimming with life. This delightful combination makes pygmy maples so distinctive and desirable. The best method for featuring this tree would be establishing them in containers such as large bonsai pots or raised beds to fully celebrate its short, bonsai-esque qualities so as not to diminish its regal attraction. Be sure to site your maple either in partial shade or a sunny spot that doesn't receive too much direct sunlight. Wherever you decide to exhibit your pygmy tree, it is sure to bring a bright and unique appeal to your garden carrying its special breath of nature to be enjoyed every time you pass it.

Sharp's Pygmy Japanese Maple will begin shipping on February, 10 2022.

Japanses Maples are easy to grow in a sunny spot with space to spread out.  A little dappled shade in the afternoon is a good idea in warmer states as the leaves can be stressed in the hottest months of the year.
