Rhododendron 'Polarnacht'

Polarnacht Rhododendron is distinctive for its very dark purple flowers. Polarnacht, directly translated from German, means Polar night and was brought into cultivation after being hybridized by the famous German hybridizer, H. Hachmann. Featured as a relatively hardy hybrid, its dense, spreading evergreen nature is easy to grow in zones 5 through 8 and reaches a mature height of 3 feet and spreads in abundance slowly to a width of 6 feet. We find that it flourishes particularly well in well shaded areas where its dark and tantalizing appeal can be appreciated for years to come.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting Rhododendron as they prefer less watering than you might think. In clay soil we prefer planting with pine bark soil conditioner for Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel,  Azalea.

Polarnacht will begin shipping on April 15, 2022.

Be sure to use a well drained soil medium when planting any Rhododendron as they prefer fall planting with less watering than you might think. In NC our soil is clay so we prefer to use pine bark soil conditioner when planting Camellia, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Azalea.
