Prunus laurocerasus 'Otto Luyken'

Offering exactly what the modern gardener needs, the Otto Luyken Laurel gives you year-round interest with the added benefit of little to no maintenance. It features a lush evergreen foliage that is full of dense, elongated glossy leaves. Unlike the other laurels we offer, Kalmia Latifolia (broad leaf mountain laurel), the Otto Luyken comes from a different genus called Prunus Laurocerasus, which translates to cherry laurel. Its growth habit can be described as dwarf and spreading which is best suited for creating hedges or use as foundation plants around your house. Since its mature height is around 4 ft and it spreads to about 6 ft, it’s great for low barriers under awnings or along pathways. The flowers from this laurel, which grow in spike-shaped spires, have an airy-white texture and fragrant appeal. What’s more is this shrub's versatility to temperament in soil and to climate. It can grow in nearly any type of soil, but does best in nutrient rich, moist soil. Once established, it is heavily drought tolerant, capable of sustaining itself from zones 6 to 9. Feel free to plant your Otto Luyken Laurel nearly anywhere to be enjoyed whether it's in full sun to partial shade, it is sure to bring you delight and add an undeniable layer of depth and layering to your garden.
