Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon'

Ogon Spirea is another great bright yellow leaf spirea that end up getting a little taller than Candy Corn. It also tends to perform better in the landscape. Ogon blooms in the summer months and loves a solid trim after the first freeze during the winter. In fall, the leaves will turn a bit orange before falling for the winter.

I like to use yellow Spirea as an accent in front of dark green evergreens. All Spirea plant prefer a hard trim during the winter months in order to show their best colors the following spring. They love lots of sun and are not water hungry. Spirea is very cold hardy which makes them great for northern states.

Spirea love a hard trim in the winter as they will pop back out more full and colorful the following year. One thing that noone ever really talks about is their fall leaf change, it can be a deep red, a bright orange, or a pale yellow. Spirea are also as tough, they can handle really cold temps.
