This incredibly fragrant French Hybrid lilac was introduced in the late 1800s. It is incredibly cold hardy capable of withstanding temperatures well into the most northern part of the United States into zone 3 and survives the south as far as zone 7. Don’t let it discourage you from featuring this in your garden though because this lilac explodes with beautifully, ornate, spire-shaped flower heads covered top to bottom in dark purple, single-blooms throughout the late spring which is uncommon for most lilacs.
