Amagasa Azalea
Rhododendron satsuki 'Amagasa'
The Amagasa Azalea (which means 'umbrella' in Japanese) is covered in stunning clusters of coral-pink trumpet-shaped flowers with red spots from mid to late spring. New foliage emerges light green in spring, but turns a darker glossy green which persists through winter. This shrub is ideal when massed in borders, foundation plantings, or low screening. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and good for smaller spaces. Pair with fern or mahonia to create a multi-textured shade planting. Excellent for acidic soil.
